So you think it’s some kind of magic? It’s pure love silly 🙃

Love your enemies…

Do good to those who hate you…

Bless those who curse you…

Pray for those who treat you badly…

To the man who slaps you on one cheek, present the other cheek too…

To the man who takes your cloak from you, do not refuse your tunic…

Give to everyone who asks you…

Do not ask for your property back from the man who robs you…

Lend without any hope of return…

Luke 6:27-38

It’s a hard one, like an obstruction that we just can’t pass.

Impossible.

It’s easier to ignore it.

To many it’s just simply ridiculous.

We recoil… if we lived this teaching it’d cost us our lives.

So step back for a moment.

Take the focus off what God is asking of you in this teaching and consider what it’s telling us about God.

Do you see it? It’s a description of the very nature of God. Indirectly Jesus is saying this is what God is like… God loves even his enemies, he does good to those who hate him, he lends without any hope of return. Indeed, God lends the gift of life without any hope of return!

And just as we instinctively know that if we lived this way it’d mean there’d be little left of our lives so there was little left of the incarnate God, the God who became human in Jesus.

But just at that moment of annihilation… resurrection!

Ponder how big God’s heart is… how great is God’s embrace… but never loose sight of the cost.

Ponder the Sacred Heart image with this post, it’s this teaching made flesh; the heart burning with love, the Cross and thorns embedded in the heart, the blood spilling, the wound in the heart…
