The difficulty with putting family – anything or anybody – before Jesus

20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus the cause of dissension! Luke 12:49-53

Here again we run into the concept of division, separation, which is a recurring theme in the teaching of Jesus.

Can we imagine a situation where our attachment to Jesus would cause us to separate from family, various relationships?

Are our families – that network of relationships – more important than Jesus and our relationship with Jesus?

Here’s the difficulty with putting somebody, anybody, including family, anything before Jesus.

Jesus will always respect our choices, so we end up looking to that somebody, to that family member, to that anything to raise us from the dead!

And that’s not going to happen!

Simple.
